Kuster A-42

Kuster A-42

  • Kuster A-42

A new open cockpit vessel for open waters built by Consonant Yachts. Retaining the extremely popular concept of the A-38, this larger model features more options and greater opportunities for creating a uniquely customised yacht. Its intelligent hull shape makes the most of all the characteristic features of the Kuster with exceptional results. With its stunning curves, the Kuster A-42 is designed and built to provide comfort to its crew in all conditions.

    On Deck
The high guard rails with hand rails in all the right places will ensure you feel very safe on deck. Wide side decks make it easy to moor or set a temporary fender/mooring rope. The bollards are well designed and sturdy, making mooring easy. The fore deck, designed to guide any incoming water directly to the side decks, provides an ideal storage space for fenders and mooring ropes. To port, next to the hydraulic anchor winch, are two countersunk and watertight synthetic gas containers, part of a well thought-out gas system.

The collapsible aluminium mast is fixed in a secure stainless steel mast heel. Free from any potential disruption, this is also the ideal location for antennas, radar domes and the searchlight. The guest flag can be easily raised.

The high ventilation inlets for the engine room are ingeniously designed, taking both safety and stability fully into account.

    Open Cockpit
This genuine ‘social’ cockpit is almost as long as and wider than on the Kuster A-38. We were able to position the floor almost 30 cm higher above the waterline and naturally make it self-draining. This increases both the seaworthiness and the storage capacity below the cockpit. It is easily possible to store bicycles onboard, for example.

Because the wheelhouse is on the same level, there is more room available for the guest cabin. Although the freeboard is slightly higher and the step a little less deep, the view of the surroundings is amazing. The built-in seating creates atmosphere and storage space, and can be converted into a full-size bed in combination with the cockpit cushions. The 10-degree angle of the sides guarantees comfort and ensure seating is available either in or out of the sun and wind. The optional sturdy table can be used for al fresco dining.

The optional outside helmsman’s station has been inspired by the Kuster A-45. The console can house navigation equipment and a maritime mobile radiotelephone. An optional stern entrance with a passerelle serves as an elegant and easy way on and off the yacht.

    Wheelhouse / Galley
The new Kuster interior has many innovative features while maintaining its practical nature. The galley with large serving hatch to the open cockpit has been placed against the aft wall, adjacent to the characteristically sturdy and well-insulated aluminium door. Compared to its smaller sister, the A-38, this model has more storage space for supplies and the like. New optional equipment includes a washing machine and even a dishwasher.

The dinette is located starboard, offering seating for five people. It provides a cosy location with panoramic views and a comfortable and secure area on stormy seas. An extension to the unique central seat provides forward views with your feet up! The solid table can easily be transformed into a dining table.

The adjustable steering chair provides safe all-round views and all equipment is within reach.

Below the floor of the saloon is the engine room, which is accessible through a large hatch. The well-organised and easily accessible equipment has been installed around a Vetus-Deutz 170 hp engine.

    Owners Cabin
The owner’s cabin is located forward and has plenty of changing space. In addition to its good storage capacity for clothes and shoes, there is a double bed in French layout. The beds come standard with slat bases and thick mattresses. Below the bed is another easy storage drawer. The shelf installed in the peak bulkhead is ideal for books and accessories.

    Guest Cabin / Lounge
Opposite of the wet cell is the guest cabin which can be separated from the hallway by an individual lockable door. The cabin is easily accessible and over one-and-a-half metres wide. There is a deep hanging closet against the wall of the owner’s cabin, and the ample headroom makes changing easy and sitting on the bed comfortable.

If desired, the guest cabin can be turned into a cosy open area. Take away the hallway and you have a comfortable lounge: A private room for two with easy chairs to enjoy a late night book, game or television show. A large closet with both hanging space as well as shelves is another option in this lounge. You could also opt for wine storage or a small desk for a laptop.

Ventilation and natural light are provided by three hinged portholes and an easily accessible escape hatch.

    Toilet / Shower
Descending from the wheelhouse is a wet cell on the portside, which can be reached both from the hallway and the owner’s cabin. The shower is separate and can be closed off with a door made of safety glass. It is provided with an additional seat for comfortable showers in all conditions. A mixer tap for hot/cold water and storage space in the head have been installed for additional ease.
