The Kuster A-31 is the smallest version in the Kuster range, still having the same sturdy and at the same time the elegant appearance of her bigger sisters. The A-31 is a real grown-up ship, but due to her compact dimensions en the playful proportions she looks nevertheless very sportive!
The arched shapes of hull, superstructure and decks give much rigidity to the ship. The bodyplan of this nearly round bilged boat, the construction, the weight en weight division of the A-31 are completely attuned to an all-ounder: to sail as much as comfortable!
Notwithstanding her modest figure, the Kuster A-31 is a true travelling-companion who brings you home even when the circumstances are less forgiving.
On Deck
As her sisters distinguish their selves in elegance, the little one in the Kuster-range is characterized by her inviting , but yet sportive emanation. Due to well-devised mountings of the wheelhouse in combination with the front and side windows, these are details which really leaps in the eye.
Therefore the robust stainless-steel guardrail isn’t annoying at all, while meanwhile guardrail and handrailings still could be arranged very safely. By placing the ventilation inlets to the motorcompartment on top off the wheelhouse, the A-31 turns to be a seaworthy ship. With the aluminium mast, in which several navigation instruments are mounted, in lowered position a fabulous clearance of not more than 2,40 meters is available!
Open Cockpit
A for this type of ship spacious and deep open cockpit with couches against the stern and wheelhouse, gives perfect shelter to sailingwinds. Due to this deep open cockpit bow waves can’t easily have hold on it. The seats which are covered with teak are perfect to stow away things safely. With the presence of easy and safe step-on’s in the side, the gangways can be reached quickly. Underneath the step-on’s cupboard are placed: ideal to stow away things like fenders, ropes and flagstaff. Beneath the cockpit-floor a king-size stowage space is created in which things such as bicycles and provisions can be stored safely: in short things that are desirable on long journeys. With the optionally closed sprayhood placed the total living area can be increased, even with bad weather, by several square metres. To enjoy the outside-steering an optional steering console fitted-out with a steeringwheel can be mounted in the open-cockpit. With all the necessary equipment within direct handreach, the Kuster A-31 can be handled by only one person! Even under mooring.
Wheelhouse / Galley
A well isolated aluminium door gives access to the wheelhouse annex salon/galley. The galley is fitted out practically with a 3-flame gas stove, a refrigerator, and a stainless steel washing tub: all worked up in a fine galley-top. Against the starboard side a more than comfortable L-settee is located on a raised platform. With even under sailing a perfect view round about, four persons can take place in this spacious seat.
The helmseat which is mounted to the wall on portside is fitted out with adjustable seat and backseat. While the location is well considered, one has a perfect view round about the ship and can operate all the instruments of the engine and navigation equipment. Direct above the helmseat a huge deckhatch of not less than 90 by 60 centimetres is mounted: fully sheltered one can even when inside think he or she is outside. When weather conditions allows the deckhatch can be fully opened! Against portside a large cupboard is placed with many drawers in which many things can be stored safely. For the navigationcharts a spacious chart-drawer is mounted underneath the table.
Under the wheelhouse floor the engineroom is located. A powerful but silent diesel-engine, a Vetus Deutz four-cilinder with 83 hp is installed. Enough power even when upstream and with strong winds. All auxiliary equipment is placed in such a way that maintenance can be carried out quick and easily.
Owners Cabin
The owners cabin which can be locked by a door, is situated in the forepart and is fitted out with two single berths the so called V-version. The berths are complete with box-spring and mattress. Underneath the berths cupboards are available for stowing clothes. Sufficient daylight can enter the cabin by means of an excellent reachable deckhatch.
Guest Cabin
On starboard side after descending a 3-rungs stair, the guestcabin is located with a berth of 1,20 metres width. The berth is complete with box-spring and mattress. Even floor space for changing clothes is available! Large cupboards underneath the berth are placed for stowing clothes, shoes and much more. By means of a large curtain the guestcabin can be separated from the rest of the ship. By means of an excellent reachable deckhatch and two portholes ventilation is perfect.
Toilet / Shower
Opposite to the guestcabin the toilet and separate shower are situated. The toilet room is fitted with a wash-basin and a manual-operated toilet. The showercabin is fitted out with a safety-glass door and an additional seat, which means that showering even under sailing is possible.
Due to the ergonomic line-up of the hand-wash basin the toilet room of the A-31 shows a good advantage. For stowage three cupboards are placed. Two portholes and an easily accessible deckhatch provides sufficient daylight and performs excellent ventilation.
